SEO for eCommerce: the guide nobody gave you
Optimised product pages, URL structure, page speed and internal linking. Everything you need to make Google work in your shop's favour.
eCommerce SEO isn't about writing meta descriptions and hoping for the best. It's a technical and content strategy that, when executed well, turns Google into your most profitable acquisition channel in the long run. Unlike ads, every page you get ranking keeps bringing in traffic for months and years afterwards at no extra cost.
Product pages that rank and sell
The product page is the most important page in your shop — and the most neglected. A title with the main keyword, a description that addresses objections, well-structured technical attributes and reviews from real customers. That's all Google needs to understand what you sell and show it to the right user.
Avoid copying the manufacturer's description. Google penalises duplicate content and, on top of that, your competitors are already using it. Write from the benefit: what problem the product solves and why your customer should choose you.
URL and category architecture
A URL like /t-shirts/organic-cotton-t-shirt says more than /product?id=4382. Organise your catalogue with a logical category hierarchy: category → subcategory → product. Each level should have unique content and internal links that guide both the user and Google's bot.
Page speed: the invisible factor
Every extra second of loading time costs you between 7% and 10% of conversions. Compress images, use lazy loading, implement a CDN and audit the third-party scripts slowing your shop down. Core Web Vitals are now a direct ranking factor: if your shop is slow, Google hides it.
SEO isn't a project with a delivery date: it's a system you build once and feed every week. The brands that understand this are the ones that end up dominating the top positions — and staying there.
